How to Reply to Positive Google Reviews
When someone leaves you a 5-star review, the worst thing you can do is paste in a generic "thank you for your feedback, we look forward to serving you again!" reply. Customers can smell a template from a mile away, and so can Google. A good reply to a positive review does three things: it uses the reviewer's name, it picks up on a specific detail they mentioned, and it sounds like a real person wrote it in under two minutes. That is genuinely all it takes to turn a nice review into a piece of content that builds trust with every future customer who reads it.
Quick tips
- Use their first name in the opening line, not a generic 'Hi there' or 'Dear valued customer'
- Pull out one specific detail from the review (a staff member's name, the service they had done, a problem you solved) and reference it directly
- Keep it short: 2 to 4 sentences is plenty, a wall of text looks like a bot wrote it
- Skip the corporate filler phrases and write the way you would actually talk to a customer face to face
- If they mentioned a specific employee, call that person out by name so they get the recognition
- End with something that opens the door naturally, like mentioning a next visit or a related service, without sounding like a sales pitch

"Best pizza I've had in years. The Margherita with the buffalo mozzarella was incredible and our server Jamie was so attentive without being annoying. Will be back every week."
Marcus, the buffalo mozzarella Margherita is honestly one of my favourites too so I'm glad it landed for you. I'll pass your words on to Jamie, she'll be really pleased to hear that. See you next week.
"Called at 8am with a burst pipe under the kitchen sink and Dave was at my house by 9:15. Fixed it in 45 minutes and even cleaned up after himself. Couldn't ask for more."
Sandra, a burst pipe first thing in the morning is the last thing you need. Glad Dave got there quickly and sorted it out for you. He's meticulous about leaving a job tidy so I'll make sure he sees this.
"I've been nervous about going short for years and Rachel talked me through everything before picking up the scissors. The result is exactly what I wanted. I actually cried happy tears."
Priya, going short for the first time is a big deal and Rachel is really good at making sure you feel ready before she starts. Happy tears are the best possible outcome. Come back and see us when you're ready for a trim.
"Brought my Subaru in for a noise I'd been ignoring for months. They found a worn wheel bearing, explained exactly what was happening, showed me the part, and had it done same day. Honest and fast."
Tom, wheel bearings have a way of getting worse the longer they're left, so good timing on bringing it in. Glad we could show you what was going on rather than just hand you a bill. Bring the Subaru back any time.
"Teddy is a rescue and gets very anxious around strangers. The groomer spent 10 minutes just letting him sniff around before doing anything. He came out looking amazing and wasn't stressed at all."
Leah, that settling-in time makes such a difference with anxious dogs and Teddy did brilliantly once he'd had a chance to get comfortable. He looked great when he left. Bring him back and we'll keep building on that.
"We came for our anniversary and the team had put rose petals and a handwritten note in the room without us asking. Breakfast the next morning was also outstanding, especially the smoked salmon eggs benedict."
James, happy anniversary to you both. The rose petals were our front desk team's idea and it's always nice to hear it actually landed well. The smoked salmon eggs benedict is one of our chef's favourites to make too. Hope we see you back for the next one.
"I told the owner I liked slow-burn literary fiction and she handed me four recommendations without hesitation. Bought two of them and finished the first one in three days. This is what bookshops should be."
Clara, slow-burn literary fiction is my favourite section to recommend from so that was a fun conversation. Really glad the first one grabbed you that quickly. Come back when you're done with the second one and we'll find you something else.
