How much does cleaning work cost? A 2026 price guide.
If you are trying to figure out what a house cleaner should cost in 2026, the honest answer is that it depends on the size of your home, how dirty it is, and how often you want it done. But "it depends" is not very helpful when you are staring at a quote and wondering if it is fair. We could print a national range for each job. We have decided not to, and the reason is worth a sentence: almost every range you can find for cleaning traces back to two or three lead-generation sites that quote each other, so five results agreeing is one source repeated five times. A number we cannot stand behind is worse to you than no number.
What is below is more useful when you are on the phone. For each job, the one thing a cleaner is really counting when they price it. Big cities still run higher and rural areas lower, and a single visit still costs more per square foot than a recurring plan. The number that matters is the one your cleaner gives you after they understand your specific home, and knowing what they are counting gets you there in a minute.
Common cleaning jobs and what decides the price
Every home and every cleaner is different, so what is below is not a rate card. It is what a cleaner is counting when they price the job, which is what you need to know before you call.
Why two quotes for the same job can look different
Size and layout
More square footage and more bathrooms mean more time. A two bedroom condo and a four bedroom house are not the same job, even if both are "a standard clean."
How long since the last clean
A home cleaned every two weeks stays easy. One that has not been cleaned in months needs a deep clean first, which is why the same address can get two very different prices.
Pets and people
Pet hair, litter, and a busy household all add time. It is not personal, it is just more surface area to cover and more to reset.
How often you book
Recurring customers cost less per visit because the work is predictable and the home never gets far behind. A one time clean carries the full setup every time.
Add ons you want
Inside the oven, inside the fridge, interior windows, laundry, or baseboards are often extras. Asking for them up front keeps the quote accurate.
Where you live
Labor and travel cost more in big metros and less in smaller towns. A fair price in San Francisco is not the same fair price in a rural county.
Want a real price for your home?
The fastest cleaning businesses answer a price question in minutes rather than days. Tono is not open for cleaning businesses yet; when it is, a cleaner using it will send a real quote while you are still deciding who to call. Learn how it works, then find a cleaner who answers fast.
Run a cleaning business?
Customers ask what it costs all day, and the first clear answer usually wins the job. Tono will answer them in your voice, with a price built from your own rates, while the lead is still warm. Tono prices plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing today, and yours is not open yet. We would rather say that than take your details and let you find out at the signup button. Leave your email and we will tell you when your trade is next.
Founding rate for the first 20 businesses. No card, and nothing is ever sent to a customer without your approval.
Why this page has no price on it. It used to. The ranges were ours in the sense that we wrote them down, and they came from nowhere we could point at, which we only found when we went looking for the source. Almost every price range you can find for this work traces back to two or three lead-generation sites that quote each other, so five results agreeing is one source repeated five times. We are not willing to republish that and call it research, and we are not willing to print a number you would take to a tradesperson and be told it means nothing.
What we put here instead. For each job, the one thing that actually decides which end of the price you land on. That we do know, from building the questions a quoting engine has to ask, and it is the more useful half. A range you cannot use tells you nothing. Knowing which single question the price turns on lets you answer it before you are asked, and get a real number back in about a minute.
They are not what Tono prices with. When a business runs its quotes through Tono, every price comes from that business's own rate sheet. Nothing on this page feeds into it.
