Google Review Responses for Lawyers & Law Firms
Responding to Google reviews as a law firm requires more care than most businesses. Bar association rules and attorney-client privilege mean you cannot confirm whether someone is or was a client, and you absolutely cannot discuss case details publicly, even to defend yourself against a negative review. This is not optional. A single careless reply that confirms a client relationship or hints at case specifics can create a serious ethics violation, regardless of how unfair the review feels.
The good news is you can still respond in a way that shows prospective clients who you are. For positive reviews, thank the person for sharing their experience without referencing anything case-specific. For negative reviews, keep it brief, stay calm, and invite the person to contact your office directly. Prospective clients reading your replies care far more about how you handle criticism than whether you won the argument. A measured, professional response to a harsh review often does more for your reputation than five glowing ones.
Quick tips
- Never confirm or deny that the reviewer is or was a client. Use language like 'if you have worked with our firm' rather than 'we appreciate you choosing us.'
- Never reference case type, outcome, timeline, or any detail that could identify a matter, even if the reviewer already disclosed it publicly.
- For negative reviews, keep replies to 2-3 sentences maximum. Invite them to call or email your office and leave it there. Do not get defensive.
- For positive reviews, mirror the tone the reviewer used. If they were warm and casual, be warm and casual back. Do not default to stiff legal language.
- Designate one person to handle review responses so your voice stays consistent, and have your managing partner or ethics counsel review your template replies before you go live.
- Respond within 48-72 hours. Slow replies on negative reviews look like avoidance, and slow replies on positive ones miss the goodwill moment.

"Going through a divorce is one of the hardest things I have ever done. The team here made sure I understood every step and never made me feel rushed when I had questions. I always got a call back the same day."
Danielle, thank you for sharing this. Divorce proceedings are genuinely hard, and making sure people feel informed rather than overwhelmed is something we work at every day. Really glad the communication worked well for you.
"I had never hired a lawyer before and honestly did not know what to expect. From the first free consultation they explained everything in plain English, no confusing jargon. Highly recommend."
Marcus, first time working with an attorney can feel intimidating, so hearing that the consultation felt clear and straightforward means a lot. We try hard to skip the jargon. Glad it came through.
"We came in to get our wills and trust documents sorted after putting it off for years. The attorney was patient, explained the difference between a will and a living trust clearly, and the whole process was faster than I expected."
Patricia, estate planning is one of those things people put off forever and then wonder why they waited so long once it is done. Glad the will vs. trust conversation was helpful and that the timeline worked for you both.
"Felt like I was just a number here. Hard to get anyone on the phone and when I did the answers felt rushed. Expected more for what I was paying."
Jerome, communication and feeling heard matter, and it sounds like we fell short there. Please reach out to our office directly at your convenience and ask for our client relations contact. We want to hear more about your experience.
"Very disappointed. I was told my paperwork would be filed by a certain date and it was not. Nobody warned me about the delay and I only found out when I called to check. This caused real problems for me."
Svetlana, delays without proactive communication are not acceptable, and I understand why that caused real frustration. I would like to look into this further. Please contact our office and reference this review so we can speak with you directly.
"We needed a commercial lease reviewed quickly before signing. Turned around a thorough memo with redlines in under 24 hours and flagged two clauses that would have caused us serious problems down the road. Worth every penny."
Ryan, those two clauses were worth catching. Commercial leases have a way of looking straightforward until they are not. Glad the turnaround worked with your timeline.
